FVE's Sound Advice: DJ vs Live Entertainment

Hey Vibe Setters,

It's your big date and you wonder if you should choose a live band or DJ entertainment.

Sound Advice Tip # 2: Live Band or DJ

Well I have looked into pros and cons for both and have decided .. it's entirely up to your budget and how organized you would like your reception.

Pros/Cons - DJ

• Costs - recommended for those with low - high entertainment budgets


• Timing - Music and start and stop on cue without interupting the schedule


• Music - All recordings are original or how you heard it on the radio or album


• Interaction - Requests and announcements can be organized prior or made during the event


• Space - DJs can work with a relatively small corners, thus not taking away room from the dance floor

Pros/Cons - Live Band

• Interaction - concert like interaction with an available dance floor.


• Costs - recommended for those with medium - high entertainment budgets


• Timing - band requires breaks/set up time between sets. Perfect for cocktails and ceromonies.


• Music - Live and personalized. Requests are limited to the bands talent and music knowledge.


• Space - A larger venue may be required as a full band requires more of the stage

Giving those pointers, I would suggest the use of both for those with the high entertainment budgets but a DJ fits in all situations...

Sound Advice Tip #1 - Costs

FVE believes in maintaining a standard costing schedule that is available to the public. Therefore, 5 hours of DJ service to Bride A (who may have a high entertainment budget) will cost the same as 5 hours of DJ service to Bride B (who may have a low budget). It's still 5 hours of DJ service

If a DJ Company is unwilling to provide its clients details of its pricing structure, then the company may not be giving you all of what you are paying for.

"That’s My Song! Music in collaboration with Entyse Entertainment, Future Vibes Entertainment (http://www.futurevibes.ca/) and MoWet Entertainment is proud to present the 2nd Annual One Blood Showcase for Sickle Cell Fundraiser 2009.

'We request your support.'
Not only is it an important cause, it also spotlights the talents of Toronto's and Greater Toronto Area (GTA)'s rising stars. We are offering the best in local live musical entertainment and hope to use this opportunity to make a difference. Our target audience - certainaly not limited to, is young adults, aged 19 – 35; future leaders in our growing neighborhoods with an interest in music and supporting the community.

Proceeds will go to the Seed of life Philanthropic Organization Inc (SOLPO)http://www.seedoflifepo.org/, a not-for-profit organization promoting awareness and education about Sickle Cell.

What is Sickle Cell? A debilitating disease that affects the red blood cells causing chronic fatigue and pain, strokes, ulcers, blindness and even death. Sickle Cell primarily targets people of African and Mediterranean heritage and malaria-borne countries.
Both awareness and funding are critical for research as there is no cure.

The OneBlood event and related publicity can be a powerful vehicle to educate the public about Sickle Cell and secure donations for SOLPO. We are counting on community-minded people such as yourselves. As a thank you for your donation, we will include SOLPO signage on our publicity material."
